The entrance hall of the museum contains a wall map pinpointing some of the 2000 shipwrecks that have occurred over the past 225 years on the Columbia River bar. It becomes symbolic that you next cross over the threshold doorway into the main exhibition hall where the first exhibit speaks of crossing the bar and offers you a buoy to guide you safely into the galleries.
